Backpack Collection

Each summer, we collect backpacks and school supplies for the kindergarten/first graders of the Lois Bronz Children’s Center in Greenburgh.

Have you watched little kids open their first backpacks? They bubble over with excitement. They gleefully examine the contents – pencils, crayons, and more. They feel so very grown up as they look with anticipation to the year ahead.

Woodlands is thrilled that we again are able to help send kindergarteners from the Lois Bronz Children’s Center to school with new backpacks filled with school supplies. The Center provides services/programs for infants, preschoolers, special education students, early childhood and after school for school age children. They have a large population of students that receive assistance and in this economic climate they have limited resources. New school supplies would help them ride the road to educational success by providing them with the necessary tools for school, and help in building their self-esteem, while teaching them to have respect and pride for their belongings.

A big thank you goes to Rabbi Lisa izes, who coordinated the drive, to everyone who donated supplies this year (wasn’t that Amazon gift list a great idea?), and to those who packed the backpacks – Lisa, Evalyn Cohen, Deborah Wiskind and Roberta Roos – making them ready for the kids to take to school.
