Fighting Hate

Together with our neighbors, we teach tolerance and understanding.

As many of you are aware, a swastika was recently painted on a street sign in Ardsley. Read about it here. This was not an isolated incident. At least 28 verifiable incidents of hate have been counted in Westchester in the last 22 months. Now read the response of the Greenburgh, NY Human Rights Advisory Committee - and take action by writing to Westchester County Executive Latimer and the other officials copied on the letter.

The Westchester County government seems to be taking this very seriously and is investigating. The Coalition Against Hate, of which Woodlands is a member, urges us to write to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, asking him to continue his support for a Westchester County Task Force on Hate Groups and Incidents and urging that the following questions be looked into:

  • What have we learned about these acts?
  • Who is committing them?
  • Are these organized hate groups who have cells in Westchester or nearby in which Westchester residents are members?
  • If so, how big are they?
  • Are they individual vandals?
  • What does our government know about these people and the potential threat they pose?
  • If we don't know the answers to these questions we should start getting them; if someone has answers, why have they remained secret?
